Note: It was the year 1794 when Count Carlo Filippo Aldrovandi Marescotti (1763-1823) – consistent with the fashion of the time that wanted the nobles to commit their time to artistic activity – opened a earthery manufactory inside his Bolognese palace in Via Galliera 8, now Montanari. Paolo Pizzoli, director of the manufacture, in 1793 was sent by Aldrovandi to England to the famous manufacture of Josuah Wedgwood to uncorp the secrets of the light and ivory dough called “half porcelain”, as well as to copy the models of the Scottish architect and decorator Robert Adam (1728-1792). The Bolognese sculptors Giacomo Rossi (1751-1817) and Giacomo de Maria (1762-1838), together with the designer Onofrio Gandolfi (1787-1861), made objects with sober neoclassical lines.
