Note: The essential feature of Lynn glass is the shallow horizontal concentric rings (normally ranging between 2 and 8) in the body of the vessel. Usually found in drinking glasses such as opaque twist wine glasses and tumblers, less common in carafes, decanters, jugs and jelly glasses.
Such glass was attributed to Kings Lynn by Albert Hartshorne in 1887. However, there is no stated evidence to confirm this. They have also been referred to as ‘Norwich glassware’ but there is no record of any glass house in Norwich at that time. However, glass with these distinctive concentric rings continues to be referred to as Lynn glass and associated with Kings Lynn.
